E-consultation to learn about experiences with youth participation in health using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), to know young people’s involvement in Local and National health and ICTs development strategies to feed into an upcoming GAID/ITU/UN Global Forum.

The Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in partnership with the United Nations is holding a Global Forum on Youth and ICT for development: Youth and ICT as Agents of Change in Geneva, Switzerland, from 24 to 26 September 2007. The aim of this E-consultation at the African level is to identify young people and their experiences in using Information and Communication Technologies to influence and advocate for health issues (especially Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS). Furthermore, the E-consultation will serve as a platform for experience sharing and provide inputs for developing a report on Youth involvement in Health and ICTs which will form part of youth submission to the upcoming Global Forum and serve as a reference point for development experts and policy makers.

The role of youth in ICT for development cannot be underestimated and hence this urgent attention to involving youth in the mainstream of ICT for Health development in line with the Millennium Development Goals. Information and Communication Technologies are means, devices and applications like radio, television, cellular phones, computers and network hardware and software, satellite systems, bills and banners, print media etc that can transmit information (in this case, health information).

This E-consultation will avail young people of the opportunity to voice their concerns, share experiences and proffer solutions to better options of harnessing the rich potentials of ICTs to advocate and influence health policies and decisions (especially Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS)

The E-consultation will take place over 4 weeks from 24 July to 14 August 2007.
