The Competition will be run as The CHOICES Schools Competition and shall be titled sponsored by one (1) organization and one (1) corporate sponsor [shall be known as partners]. The competition will be the first ever Jamaican Competition to promote youth advocacy on online safety (cyber crime). The competition shall be known as “digital u : staying safe in cyberspace.”

The competition is being launched in recognition of the increase efforts of the Jamaican Government through their Education Youth & Culture and Science, Commerce & Technology Ministries in promoting the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the schools’ curriculum through the e-learning Jamaica Project that has now been started in thirty six (36) schools.

Cyber crime is becoming more prevalent and is thus a very important issue that cannot be taken for granted. It therefore means that attention must be directed in this area and as a result CHOICES through its ongoing efforts to promote education and technology in Jamaica has therefore decided to launch this competition. Through research students will gain knowledge on the topic of online safety with special attention being given to spamming, peer-to-peer downloading, phishing, and identity theft.

Though the internet is a great source of information in educating our students, it has its many blunders. Students, teachers and parents must therefore be educated on the dangers that exist in cyberspace.
