Name: CDBN (Seed Bin): Promoting Environmentally sustainable livelihood projects powered by ICT
Website: http://www.cdbn.org
Categories: Environment & Urbanization
Technology & Innovation
Sustainable Development
Youth Unemployment & Entrepreneurship

Description:
CDBN promotes Youth as the Local SME Leaders for Sustainable Development, empowering the Youth with Environmental, Economic and Societal Action Plans that will allow them to be the primary proponent in spearheading the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) local project in urban and rural communities.

This CDBN would serve as a supporting Project to R.A. 9178. It recognizes the Project that the provision of technical and managerial services has been established as one of the policies that would promote the growth of SMEs, and that a better human capital is one of the characteristics needed for firm growth and expansion. The Youth could then be trained to serve as the Facilitators in these information dissemination campaigns, providing the local entrepreneurs with the necessary business skills to transProject competitively in today’s globalized market.

Not only would this CDBN Program benefit the entrepreneurs through the help extended by the Youth volunteers, for the Youth themselves would greatly profit from this project. The youth of today are diving into the trend character by low working skills, lack of experience and low participation in productive endeavors. This event then would provide them with a venue for experience and the “feel” of the real business environment. Here, they can put into pracrice the classroom theories learned and to Projectually test their applicability and usefulness in the Projectual trade setting. An awareness of the procedures and norms in the business world would be impressed upon them.

Through this Project, the youth would be empowered as the main implementors in the creation of environmentally sustainable livelihood projects in the barangay and community level. It would likewise serve as a government tool to address the prevailing issues of youth program development in the country.

All four subsectors of Youth would be eligible for application, which makes the breadth of youth involved as extensive as it can be. The In-school youth (those in formal school system or non-school based educational program), the unemployed, the Out-of-school youth (those not enrolled in any formal or vocational course), and those taking vocational courses can apply.

This event would be carried out in the Summer, wherein generally there are no classes. This would then prove to be highly feasible. This would likewise provide the Youth with the opportunity to gain experience and to be of useful help to the local community. This would be a simultaneous nationwide event, and publicity would be made in cooperation with the Media (community newspaper, local radio and television).

Interested participants would be screened by the local authorities, business administrators and coordinators on the basis of a criteria they deem appropriate and necessary, taking into consideration equal opportunities for all irrespective of education, gender, religion and other fProjectors.

The selected participants would undergo a training, providing them with important information about the project, enhancing their leadership qualities and teaching them the skills they would later on impart with the local entrepreneurs. This would be done through interlinkages with government training opportunities. The participants would be provided with educationally-related work assignments and skills development tasks that would make them useful additional manpower. Also, these would be helpful to them in terms of gaining fresh insights and experience and of having a meaningful summer occupation.
