Description:
In past years, the region „Corredor Chocó-Andes“ in Ecuador, has been threatened by illegal deforestation, pipelines, etc. with irreversible consequences, putting in danger the flora and fauna of this unique cloud forest (and of the entire ecosystem), which was named by Birdlife International as the most important region for bird protection-area in South America.

On the other hand, in the Capital, Quito, many children are forced to work on the streets and face constant danger. This has become an everyday standard of our streets; people are accustomed to it, and even perceive it as normal.

For these reasons, we have created a project that will both protect this unique Region of Ecuador and give children a retreat from the smoky, working city of Quito. This will challenge their creativity, awake their inner artist and elevate their environmental awareness, not only of these children, but also of the community, the people of the city, of the country, and why not… of the whole world.

Fundación Casa Bambú will be officially incorporated as a non-profit organization in the coming months in Quito. The first project, bambuProjekt, with headquarters in Hamburg, will be the basis of the Foundation Casa Bambú.

bambuProjekt has as a main Goal to incorporate a big house at the Founder’s Finca in Nanegalito. The project will have a duration period of two years. After the build of the „bambuCasa“ (expected for September 2007), art camps will take place. Students from Germany and underprivileged children from the capital will come together for a collaboration, creating a more global work that reaches not only the region and these kids, but is also an opportunity for the students to interact with other parts of the world, giving them a chance to see beyond what they know.
At the end of the workshops, we will conclude the project with an Exposition of the works, followed by the donation of the bambuCasa to the Foundation, so they can further enhance the region by performing additional development projects.

We want to build a strong foundation that will allow many future projects for the benefit of this Andean Region, improvement of the life of its people and a better understanding between our own people and the world.

I am very optimistic about our goals and with your support, we can help make it possible.

Thank you for your support and encouragement,

Lorena Torres-Hausser
Founder
